Claire Harrison, MD, FRCP, FRCPath, a consultant hematologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ National Health Service Foundation Trust, discusses her abstract titled, “Gaps in the assessment and monitoring of cardiovascular risk and psychological burden in polycythemia vera: LANDMARK 2.0: a worldwide health survey.”
The abstract was recently presented at the 2023 European Hematology Association Congress in Frankfurt, Germany.
“The main gap for me is around standardized methods and frequency of those for monitoring cardiovascular risk,” Dr. Harrison said. “The findings around that physicians and patients often disagree about the perceived importance of quality of life and the really tying up these often-common themes about communication and regularity, and possibly just selecting that this is at a time of heightened stress for both parties, the physician and the patient.”
