About Dr. Krina Patel
Krina Patel, MD, MSc is an Associate Professor in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma within the Division of Cancer Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She is a dedicated physician-scientist whose research focuses on advancing treatments and improving outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders, including POEMS syndrome, Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, plasmablastic lymphoma, and amyloidosis.
Dr. Patel’s work emphasizes the development of innovative cellular therapies, such as chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy, both with and without transplantation. She also explores the integration of immunotherapy and chemotherapy across all stages of treatment, including induction, transplantation, maintenance, and salvage therapy.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2007 and later obtained a Master of Science in Biomedical Science and Clinical and Translational Sciences from The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston. Dr. Patel completed her residency in internal medicine at The University of Texas UT Health in Houston, where she also served as Assistant Chief of Service. She then pursued a fellowship in hematology and oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she was later appointed Chief Fellow.
Dr. Patel is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. She has held multiple leadership roles at MD Anderson Cancer Center, including Service Line Leader in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma and Center Medical Director from 2019 to 2022. She has also contributed to institutional committees, mentored fellows, and participated in clinical research advisory boards.
An active member of leading professional organizations, Dr. Patel is affiliated with the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Her contributions to clinical research have earned her numerous awards, including the Clifton D. Howe Award for Clinical Excellence and the ASCO Annual Meeting Merit Travel Award. She joined the Blood Cancers Today editorial board in 2025 as a Co-Editor-in-Chief.
