How Can Health Care Institutions Mitigate Disparities in Multiple Myeloma?

Sikander Ailawadhi, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, speaks about the Mayo Clinic’s efforts to address health care disparities throughout its independent campuses in Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida.

“From a Mayo Clinic standpoint, there’s absolutely a very large footprint in this area of trying to mitigate health care disparities,” he said. “As part of our vision for 2030 … Mayo has committed an extremely large sum of funding which will go toward efforts for mitigating health care disparities.”

Dr. Ailawadhi also outlined the specific efforts to address disparities in multiple myeloma (MM).

“We are specifically focusing, not only as an institution, but also within myeloma, on what we can do to mitigate health care disparities,” he said.
